Responsibilities

Here we document the responsibilities that should be taken on by coaches, players and parents.

Coach Responsibilities

All coaches must recognise that they have important responsibilities to all our youngsters and their parents/guardians and must conduct themselves professionally at all times. All coaches must:

  • Keep the well being and safety of all participants as a priority ahead of development of performance.
  • Show respect and consideration to all players and all members of BRHC at all times.
  • Be aware of and follow all guidelines and policies of the NGB and the club concerning Child Protection, Health and Safety, Equity, Accident and Emergency and First Aid procedures.
  • Know who the Child Welfare Officer is and have necessary contact details.
  • Ensure they hold the appropriate and valid qualifications and insurance and comply with being CRB checked and keep this all up to-date.
  • Plan and prepare their sessions in conjunction with the Head Coach and ensure they take account of the different ability, age and experience within their group.
  • Develop the ethos of support and consideration for others.
  • Encourage sportsmanship and courtesy to all officials and their opponents.
  • Show support for your child’s team mates and for other children sharing the training session, bullying or intimidating behaviour or foul language will not be tolerated.
  • Support and encourage excellence for those who wish to achieve but not to the disadvantage of other participants. Recognise skill levels and be aware of when to pass individuals on for higher level training or experience.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance, both personally and professionally.
  • Never swear or use foul language, and never condone rule violations, rough play, abusive behaviour, use of drugs, alcohol or smoking, bullying or racism of any sort.
  • Encourage and guide participants to value their performances -not just results and to accept responsibility for their behaviour and performance both on and off the pitch.
  • Encourage and actively support those players, when appropriate, to take their own qualifications eg Leadership courses, Foundation Umpire Award.
  • Ensure participants are suitably dressed and prepared eg no jewellery or piercings and wearing correct protective gear like gumshields and shin pads.


Player Responsibilities

Ben Rhydding Hockey Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of its members. The Club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare for others. Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they have with initially their Coach or Neil Sugden for boys, Abby Box for girls or the Safeguarding Team. As a member of Ben Rhydding Hockey Club you are expected to abide by the following junior club rules:

  • All members must play within the rules of the game and respect officials & their decisions.
  • All members must respect opponents.
  • Members should aim to be prompt for training sessions and matches and inform their coach or manager if they know they are going to be late.
  • Members must wear suitable kit for warming up, training and matches and come prepared for the weather conditions, including wearing of gum- shields and shin pads at all times including training sessions.
  • Players must avoid using inappropriate language.
  • Players must avoid rough or violent play.
  • Players are expected to show support for team mates and for other children sharing the training session, bullying or intimidating behaviour will not be tolerated .
  • Any kind of alcohol or substance abuse will not be tolerated.
  • Support coaches and officials and offer support in administration and transport where needed.

Safety in & around the Clubhouse & Grounds

  • Whilst waiting for the start of a coaching session, stick work or I dangerous and uncontrolled hitting of the ball will not be tolerated.
  • Players should not enter the pitch until the previous session or match has finished. Players wishing to warm up may do so on the grass outside the Clubhouse. Please be aware of any danger to others.
  • Juniors awaiting collection should wait within the fenced area of the astroturf pitch until a recognised adult arrives to collect them
  • The area behind the pitch by the riverbank is strictly OUT OF BOUNDS to everyone

Attendance

The training and match programme are aimed at developing a colt over an entire season; therefore regular attendance is essential once enrolled. We ask all players to remember that they are playing for BRHC and that their behaviour on and off the field, when at the club or representing the club should be of the highest standard.

Disciplinary procedure:

If for any reason colts step outside the guidelines the following procedures will take place:

  • In the first instance the Coach or Team Manager should tackle any issues arising with the player concerned and this may then be referred to the Head Coach.
  • If disruption or disregard for the Junior Club rules continues whilst representing the club, the Coach or Manager will discuss the issue with the parents/guardian.
  • If the issue or behaviour cannot be resolved by a) and b) the Colts committee will have the final say on what course of action is to be taken.


Parent Responsibilities

As Parents and Guardians of junior members we value your support and ask you to work with us to provide a safe environment where each child can have fun playing hockey to their best ability. Please read and follow this code of conduct to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all:

  • Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
  • Help your child to respect the rules of the game, the officials & their decisions.
  • Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
  • Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all.
  • Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes, always praise positive efforts.
  • Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
  • Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport .Use correct and proper language at all times.
  • Encourage and guide participants to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.
  • Aim to ensure that your child is prompt for training sessions and matches and inform their coach or manager if you know they are going to be late.
  • Ensure your child is properly prepared for warming up, training and matches. This includes checking and re-checking correct clothing, wearing of gum-shields, shinpads, sticks etc. Please ensure all jewellery or piercings are removed.
  • Please let the coach know immediately of a change in contact details or medical requirements.
  • Please pay any fees promptly

Safety in & around the Clubhouse & Grounds

  • Juniors should be collected from within the fenced area of the Astroturf pitch.

  • Please ensure that your children are adequately supervised in the club house and grounds.
